On Google+, Pinterest, Twitter, and other sites, I wrote that anything goes; and that I would find order in chaos. People follow my feed there and like/comment when inspired. On Facebook and LinkedIn, I wrote that I needed a pre-existing relationship to connect. My mission to find order in chaos changed a lot. Ditto me on their photos.

After nearly four years of powering this blog’s email and RSS delivery options, I’ve parted ways with Google and its free Feedburner service and embraced the paid service of Feedblitz. Feedburner used to be a wonderful company with an amazing tool that had responsive customer service — until Google bought them.

Set up a RSS subscription feed – and an email subscription feed. Use Google Analytics or similar to track metrics. Create personalized pages that explain how someone can contact you, who/what you are, location/hours, disclaimers, etc. These are typically on the top navigational bar menu.) Through both broadcasted thoughts to nobody in particular and targeted replies to people I knew and random people whose tweets inspired me to reply, I updated my Twitter feed every so often. I joined them. Then, I watched the Chatter.com commercial. Around halftime, I saw an enigmatic commercial about Chatter.com.

Twitter lists are like Google+ circles. Over on Google+, where I have 1.4 It was very hard for me to engage with anyone since my feed was full of people I didn’t know. The list feature is a great way to categorize people by interest. I have lists for specific groups or people in my network.

When you end up in the first page of Google your traffic explodes. The greatest advantage of getting traffic through Google first page is that your average bounce rate decreases dramatically, because these users know exactly what they are looking for and they land in your nice well-crafted webpage.

Feed Pauser halts the syndication of a new blog post for up to 20 minutes to let me ensure there are no typos and that the published appearance is how it was intended. Google XML Sitemaps helps search engine robots know what the site looks like, enabling you to see the best post when searching for a keyword.

Clive elaborates: Merely looking at a stranger’s Twitter or Facebook feed isn’t interesting, because it seems like blather. Some bloggers don’t care if you socially share their articles on your Facebook wall, your Twitter feed, or your Google circles. But placement isn’t everything.
