I assume their status is because they are more active in other areas of the site or have gained a large number of subscribers. …but I think there is more to it than that.

The influencers behind forums are often the owners, but sometimes the moderators or just active users. Have Facebook? Just know who they are.

With over 10 million active users on the site there is a lot of potential for certain content to get viewed thousands of times. You don’t need to be an active user of the service in order to get a lot of traffic to your website. In fact, I had a blog post I wrote for DumbLittleMan receive over 100,000 views from the service.

Leo from Zen Habits had his big wave when, back in 2007, his weekly list posts were being featured on the Digg homepage. In his first year, the site hit the Digg homepage over 40 times. By this I simply mean that you need to make it clear you are someone who is active in your niche and have connections with other influencers.

When there’s over 20 links to sites like Gmail, Facebook, Digg and Twitter, it’s hard not to be distracted. I also love that having multiple accounts in one place means that I can easily share blog links on Twitter and Facebook or save them if I wish. My Twitter and Facebook accounts are pretty much separate too.

Facebook lets you keep in touch with friends and family. Digg lets you find news that you know hundreds of other people recommend. This might not sound great but everyone active online in any space online is generally just thinking about what’s in it for them. Google lets you find awesome websites.

Authors in the blogosphere have gradually started to link out to each other less and less due to services like Twitter and Facebook being used for sharing content, but I still personally like to link out as much as possible. Twitter, Facebook, Delicious, Digg and StumbleUpon are just a few services that come to mind.

Analytics & Research In a survey across thousands of large companies who actively monitor their stats online, only 35% stated that they actually changed their website based on what they saw.
