It worked really well, it’s actually the first blog that I began to make some money from by putting some Adsense Ads on and referring people over to Amazon with affiliate links. By 2005, I think I had about 30 blogs including that network of blogs that I was involved with at that time. I did that with some friends over in New Zealand.

If you think back to 2004, 2005 on the Internet, the big cool thing back then was banner advertising. Google AdSense was starting to put all these text ads around the internet. We began to see in probably 2004 or 2005, people began to just show excerpts of their articles. It’s just what happened.

At that time the basket that all my eggs were in was ‘Google’ I was reliant upon Google for most of my traffic and most of my income (by monetising purely through Google AdSense). I was reliant upon Google for around 80% of my traffic so when that traffic all but disappeared – so did my income.

In fact, I think it was probably around 2005 that I hired my first blog writer and she also became an editor for one of my early blogs. And yet, it was doing reasonably well in terms of traffic and revenue from AdSense. I started hiring people to write on my blogs and to edit my blogs quite a few years ago now.

Google Analytics ; Google AdSense. As I just looked at my Google Analytics a few minutes ago, I can see the most popular page on my site is the homepage. To the point where Google is now seeing them as a high quality article than they used to be, so it is ranking them at a higher rate as well. Facebook group.

Excited by my new idea, I did a quick Google search when I got to work and to my astonishment there where hundreds, if not thousands… and the icing on the cake was that they would pay me commission if I referred people to their sites to buy their products. The remaining traffic is a split between Direct and Referring sites.

I will at least sell you on what you’re about to learn: A weird tip I personally received from Google’s Matt Cutts which increased my ViperChill search rankings. It probably wouldn’t be good for search, but Google makes up a tiny percent of my traffic. It’s more like a mini-eBook, without the price tag.

Turns out no-one had looked to any of the photos but I posted one review of the camera I was using and it ranked number one on Google for that camera. With this particular blog, I started to put some AdSense ads on my blog and some Amazon affiliate links to earn those 4% commissions on those $10 books. I’ve never heard of them before.

The current emphasis on rewards of credits going to Facebook Advertising implies that Facebook are going hungrily after Google’s Adsense/Adwords revenue. After all, you also get profile based targetting which Google can’t give you… but I don’t think Facebook Credit is just for Social Ads on Facebook.
