PR Crisis for Skittles In Wake of Controversial Teen Shooting

Spin Sucks

I’ve been watching a different kind of PR crisis unfold with great interest – that of Skittles. Skittles, you say? Taste the fruity rainbow, Skittles? Yes, Skittles. Because of the symbolism of the candy ( Trayvon Martin was carrying only Skittles and a drink when he was shot), college student governments are buying it in bulk and reselling it to raise money for his family.

Meet Imogen: A Fake Wannabe Guest Blogger

Ari Herzog

On the heels of my popular advice why some people suck at emailing me requests to publish their guest blog posts, I received a message with the following subject line: Professional Copywriting for Sci Fi Talk. My first instinct was a recruiter found my resume on one of the online job boards where I posted it with my desire to work in social media marketing , and that this person wanted me to write articles for a science fiction website. Alas, no. Otherwise I’d be happy to chat about alternative arrangements if you’d rather not link to a corporate site. Very best, Imogen.

Watching Me Blog

Twist Image

Blogs are one of the most valuable marketing tools ever created. believe that. don't just say it. mean it by walking the talk. started blogging in September 2003, and since then I have written almost three thousand posts. I'm proud of this blog mostly because it serves two personal Gods for me: my love of writing and my love of sharing. I had the pleasure of speaking in Oslo, Norway last week at the re:think conference. Also on that bill was Chris Brogan ( Trust Agents , Social Media 101 , Google + For Business ). To my surprise, Chris blogged about me blogging (how meta!) Only me. everything.

The Danger Of Doing Business Vicariously

Waxing UnLyrical

I had a colleague who was very “size” conscious. She wasn’t at an unhealthy weight, but she ate huge amounts of leafy greens every day because she wanted to avoid putting on an extra ounce. Then I would sit across from her and watch as she ate it all – cheer her on, even. She meant well, and was doing good things for her body. I’ve no doubt it was very good for her.

The Way of the Web

It may have been April Fools Day on Sunday, but it was actually Saturday March 31 that held all the ironic humour for me this year. That’s because it was ‘World BackUp Day’ (unfortunately the site appears to be down right now!), designed to promote safe and secure second copies of all of your data, and I was spending it reinstalling my operating system due to a malware infection. Aaaaaaaaaargh.

Colgate has 32 varieties of toothpaste. ‘Why’ does it exist?

Danny WhatMough

Book review: “ Start With Why: How Great Leaders Inspire Everyone To Take Action ” by Simon Sinek. Thirty years ago, Colgate had two brands of toothpaste. Today, it has 32, excluding the four they make for children. Does this mean that Colgate is selling thirty times more toothpaste that it did in 1970? What does that say about the company? ” Don’t you dare manipulate me.

This struck a chord with me because over the last year, I’ve decided to do just that. It struck me that I was on the receiving end of a lot of bad pitches from companies and agencies. The pitches were often bad for a number of reasons: The company was pitching a product that was irrelevant to the topic of my blog. The pitch was impersonal and non-relational. The list could go on.

4 Talking Animal Apps for iPhones

Idaconcpts

Talking Animal apps are like the electronic equivalent of the pet rock. Though it is true that the pet rock can do a lot, if not more than the talking animal (remember that inaction is in fact an action), that by no means implies that the talking animal is not without its own unique features of interest. Contrary to popular belief, it is because of the talking animal that the iPhone was created.
