Here’s what we expect (hope) to see from the social news giant: Nothing else will have any meaning if Digg doesn’t turn a profit by the middle of the year. If there’s one reason Digg brought in Matt Williams as CEO, it was his understanding of profitability and advertising development. Twitter, Reddit, and others are able to deliver breaking news quickly. Digg is heading in the right direction with 2 additions from 2011. Digg is at a crossroads. | SOSHABLE JULY 31, 2012 The New @Digg Could Be Worse. No it Couldn’t. I told Kevin Rose that he made a huge mistake with Digg v4 a couple of days after launch. As progressions go, I had expected to offer some meaningless after-the-fact advice to the new owners of Digg once they launched “V1″ Unfortunately, I have no advice to give. In short, Digg is officially dead. This was the one great asset that Digg still held. Forever. | | | | | | | SOSHABLE MARCH 19, 2011 Three Things Digg Needs to Survive: Buzz, Buzz, and Buzz No, Digg is not dead. As I posted on FastCompany last month, Digg has until May to get the help (which we’ve offered on multiple occasions free of charge) they need to get back on track or they will miss their last window of opportunity to keep from going the way of Propeller, MySpace, and Yahoo Buzz. That helped to prompt the recent round of Digg-hate from the blogosphere. | ARI HERZOG JANUARY 20, 2011 How to Syndicate Your Blog to Digg It used to be taboo to promote your own blog articles on Digg but, since June 2010 when the social bookmarking site was improved, this is no longer frowned upon. Presuming you have an RSS feed for your blog, you merely have to log into your Digg account and follow the prompts to verify to Digg you are the owner of your blog. Contact Ari: Twitter | Email | 978.558.0008. | SOSHABLE MARCH 17, 2009 46% of the Digg Front Page is Controlled by 50 Websites of the Digg front page comes from 50 websites, according to data accumulated on di66.net. To combat the “algorithm gamers and “power-users on the site, Digg has launched several measures to discourage the practice of blind digging where users digg hundreds of stories quickly in hopes that others will reciprocate. Digg: Diversify or Die. Blast. Share it. | SOSHABLE SEPTEMBER 20, 2011 Digg Newsroom Beta May Just Be Enough To Regain Relevance Over the last year since the launch of version 4, Digg has faced challenges in regaining its relevance in social media. It has seemed at times as if Digg may go the way of MySpace, Propeller, and Yahoo Buzz – social sites that were once big news but failed to adapt to a changing social sphere. Today, they launched Digg Newsrooms in limited beta. Traffic is down. | | | | | | | | | -
SOSHABLE | SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 19, 2011 At Digg, There is Hope (and rightfully so) There seems to be a paradigm shift going on over at Digg that hearkens to the cries of users and publishers alike longing for the glory of old. It would appear that for the first time in over a year, Digg senior management is not only listening to the users, they’re acting upon what they’re hearing. Anyone who has followed knows that I’ve been extremely critical of Digg from a few weeks before they launched V4 until very recently. For the first time in over 7 months, I’m strongly encouraged about Digg’s future. Digg heard. MORE >> -
NOWSOURCING | FRIDAY, JULY 13, 2012 RIP Digg: Enter the New Social Media Frontier If you were a top Digg user, you had clout (not klout, that’s for newbies, stick with me here) in the newly emerging Web 2.0 Digg, the once frontrunner of the pack, started mindlessly catering to the publishers only. And now Digg’s been sold. Digg has been sold to BetaWorks for 500k (ok maybe more like 16million if you count the IP rights with LinkedIn and Washington Post ). Don’t forget one of the biggest potential moments for Digg with a whopping $200 million Google acquisition that was rumored to be on the table. Early Times. world. MORE >> -
SOSHABLE | THURSDAY, JULY 28, 2011 Digg “Newswire” is Hot (Update: Buries to be Public?) One of the biggest complaints of Digg has always been in sorting. Newswire, a new Digg feature still in limited beta, appears to be addressing the issue nicely. It’s almost exactly like the Upcoming section except it adds two strong new features: minimum and maximum Digg counts and activity updates without refreshing. This can be very useful for those wanting to use Digg for it’s original purpose – content discovery using the wisdom of the crowd. The Newswire is here to let you slice, dice and explore the freshest content on Digg. MORE >> -
SOSHABLE | MONDAY, MARCH 18, 2013 New Twitter Advertising Rules – Some Tweets Illegal! There is only one piece of really noticeable news that jumped out to people so far, and that pertains to Twitter. Apparently, the FTC is sick of the paid, viral ads on Twitter. The new rule puts an end to this, requiring Twitter users to be very clear about what is a paid or “sponsored” Tweet. Keep in mind these new rules apply to any short-form digital marketing, Twitter is just the one it applies to most. Original post about Twitter advertising can be found on Wikimotive’s blog under the title, “ Some Advertising Tweets Now Illegal! MORE >> -
SOSHABLE | SUNDAY, AUGUST 2, 2009 7 Reasons Why I Won’t Tweet Diggbar Links Ever Again… Regardless of what anyone at Digg says, this was just wrong. Below is my version of the definition as it fits with what Digg has done: In social media, a bait and switch is a form of fraud in which the website putting forth the fraud lures in users by promoting their service as a portal to great content, then reveals to the user that the functionality has been changed but that substitute content is available. We were pulled in because it was easy to use, helped to promote strong content, and displayed the source to everyone who clicked on it, Digg user or not. Blast. MORE >> -
