Comments help you to show a form of social proof that you can’t fake without a lot of time and they allow you to see if people are really interested in the type of content you’re putting out there. Just make sure you can back it up with the content that follows. That’s it. It makes no sense not to.

The phrase is very competitive and gets around 40,000 exact searches per month in Google so I think this shows that quality content around a topic (which attracts links) is really what Google and other search engines want to provide their audience.
