The phrases in the example above are considered to be long-tail phrases as they contain more words and have a much smaller search volume, but they’re also easier to rank for. I’m competing against them in one industry and all factors would suggest I should outrank them, but I simply don’t. The first thing that struck me about the results here is how well the 5th site was ranking when it was so young compared to the other competing sites. 1 site ranking Wikihow. What did you get out of the post?

For example, I use Gmail for my email, but I login with an @viperchill.com address and have even replaced the Gmail logo with my own. For example, if I want to leave a lot of blog comments, it’s going to be a hassle to constantly type in my name, email, and URL. And here I am competing manually. I may have to start over.

For example, when I want to see how my football team, Newcastle, have fared against Liverpool, I literally don’t have to click anywhere. I am utilising them because we’re not competing on a fair playing field, and what is supposed to work is very rarely what ranks, at least in the industries that I operate in.

Traffic - There are millions of webmasters out there and they’re all competing for targeted eyeballs online. For example, in almost all cases, bloggers will say that they want to see your article idea before you get to work. Big Wave was an example of the first. There are few other techniques so effective.

For example, I wrote this post on how I rank for 66,000 visitors worth of keywords on Google and the lessons behind the most popular blog posts (in terms of links) on some big blogs.
