In February of 2011, Google released the Panda update that took rankings away from websites with low-quality content and sites with more advertising than content. Links can do this regardless of whether or not they contain the “nofollow” attribute, contain redirects, come from a site with a high PageRank , and so on.

You could simply buy directory links, sponsor blog posts, and even have Wordpress themes developed which included a link to your site in the footer. The top results for most keyphrases are either a Wikipedia page, a site that is very focused around community, or a clear leader in an industry.

I said from day one that I would do a case study of this sites’ traffic for one year, and that’s what I’ve done. Although I don’t have any goals for the size of the community here, I still think it is an interesting metric to monitor. Let’s look at the numbers, shall we?

Crazy Egg allows you to see the most popular areas of your website pages and find out where visitors from different sources are clicking on your site. If you see that a certain site is sending a lot of RSS subscribers, you can work to get more traffic from that source. That way I knew when my sites had moved.

I have decided that instead of starting multiple sites in fairly uncompetitive niches, I’m going to go for a ‘biggie’ I’m going to go for a niche that is highly profitable, but also ultra competitive. Sites that make less than $10,000 a month tend to be sold for around 12 – 18 months revenue.

I like to focus on building search engine traffic to my sites because once you have rankings you can usually sustain them with little effort and the traffic they send is very targeted. Some success is from sites I purchased which were ranking on the first few pages of Google and I built some great links to get them on the first page.

It’s simple, we call link building the process of acquiring new inbound links or backlinks to a website from external sites. Though, links from popular sites can also be a great source of referral traffic. Which means that the more votes a site gets, the more likely it is to show up for a particular search query.
