We pause for 10 minutes, and when we return, the class asks questions or makes comments, to which Professor Jutras responds. Then the comments come in, and a conversation takes place. But it’s only ever got two participants: the original commenter and the blogger. I see this seminar as a blog.

If you use Twitter regularly, you’d see that it wins as a social news site that provides instantaneous news — at least of that caliber. As Chris Garrett explains in his post, if you follow numerous feed bots, you can get the news all the time. The right news will hit the front page of Digg quickly.

The aim of my little experiment was to test the assumption that search traffic was of a higher quality than social media traffic. Many people found the research interesting, but a number of people commented that the social networks probably shouldn’t be grouped together. Sphinn story sphunn.

In comparison, here’s another anomaly (for its time). This is not a regular practice on the social news giant, and unfortunately, that is probably the biggest thing causing its downfall. There was only one occasion when the users were able to make a lasting impression on the social news site.

There’s been a bit of news about it recently. However, a lot of people making that news have created expectations and beliefs about social media that aren’t true. Done correctly, social media is about developing meaningful relationships with customers and prospective customers in their natural habitat.

After using both closely, the comparison to Twitter shouldn’t even be the case. When it comes to a basis of comparison, nested conversations are probably the only aspect of Plurk that has brought it much success (save for the lack of downtime, though it does suffer some quirks here and there). You may have more than one.
