Google Reader Subscriber Counts. One tool I like to use when looking for large blogs in a niche is Google Reader, and more specifically its ‘Browse for Feeds’ feature. In Google Reader you can see how many people are subscribing just via Google. Google Reader.

I’m actually writing this sentence (not the post) on March 11th 2010 sitting on a feed count of 4,717 subscribers (I’ll explain this later). My feed jumped from 8,500 to over 11,500 according to Feedburner. to the RSS feed. Here’s how. I first want to say that I never actually reached 10,000 subscribers.

A few weeks ago, jwz posted a great piece on how to access Facebook via a feed reader. I now have status updates in my feed, and finally, I can see both happy and sad news. I may have met these individuals by chance (long-standing relationship) or through the blogosphere or forums.

Though I don’t do this personally, it’s a popular choice around the blogosphere so that’s why I’m covering it. I very rarely (if ever these days) find myself subscribing to new blogs, so I always take note when I stumble across a new site and end up adding it to my feed reader. Implement a Feed Footer.

You need to network with like minded individuals and build relationships with people in the blogosphere so that you ultimately get inbound links, comments, and visibility. Whenever I have friends looking to enter teh blogosphere, I always remind them that the internet has an impressively long memory, so be careful what you put out there.

Decide on a Brandable Name Because these blogs write so much, they don’t have as many people coming to their blog via feed readers as you would expect.
