I’m competing against them in one industry and all factors would suggest I should outrank them, but I simply don’t. The first thing that struck me about the results here is how well the 5th site was ranking when it was so young compared to the other competing sites. 1 site ranking Wikihow. to only real comments.

A site’s authority may rapidly rise and fall depending on what the blogosphere is discussing at the moment, and how often a site produces content being referenced by other sites. Yet, Compete isn’t the only tool showing them to be receiving a lot more traffic than TechCrunch these days. And yeah, Wordpress is great.

My audience has grown steadily with virtually no marketing, and I have no niche to compete with. I do give it to the blogosphere though, I know that we can make a lot of money by going that route.

First, if you look at their traffic stats with Compete you can see that they have traffic spikes and dips at around the same time: Then, looking at feed subscribers , despite the large difference at the start of the graph, their growth rate is on a very similar consistent rise. In fact, my search only turned up one guest post each.

For example I could have shared the Matt Cutts blog ranking tip I’m about to reveal in a separate post, then copied 90% of my WordPress SEO article, slapped it on the end and then hit publish. The only way people can compete is to be cheaper (create more viral content each day) or different (no ads, faster site, cooler brand, etc).
