If you have many customers, it is a cost you should be willing to invest in for what I believe is to be a positive ROI. And if you don’t have enough people, then you should staff up. Many social media software packages (great ebook analysis of them here) can provide highly detailed reports on the impact of social media programs. Can those results be tied back directly to sales, and therefore ROI? Social Media is optional It doesn’t matter what the demographics of your customers are.

A Community Manager who does use social platforms needs to be able to track its effectiveness in… um… getting people through the door. I remember sitting in an ROI webinar with New Marketing Labs’ Justin Levy , and he more or less skimmed through 5 or 6 different measuring tools like Grader, and of course, Google Analytics.
