When you go to a conference in Manhattan, you probably seek out hotels that you’ve also heard of. I personally learned about Roger Smith Hotel at a social media conference and was told that it’s the place to be. I first really learned about RSH at the conference we were at together, Betsy. We think so!

I became a lot more conservative in choosing my friends in Facebook (as broken down in the chart below) with a few exceptions because Facebook is starting to blend in with my social media enthusiasm. This is not a regular practice on the social news giant, and unfortunately, that is probably the biggest thing causing its downfall. There was only one occasion when the users were able to make a lasting impression on the social news site. It’s hard to say if that will happen again. Time will only tell.

Perhaps this is a “take heed&# call to community participants who engage on the social web, but while ExpertCruiser warns its readers that this is a scummy practice, in reality, scouring social sites for mentions of your product, service, and even your competitors is nothing new.

I don’t necessarily expect to meet with those folks immediately; often, these powerful relationships are formed online, and I then try to learn what I can about the blogger himself/herself and follow up, normally at a conference or industry event. © 2006-2010 Tamar Weinberg. As a result, engagement goes up as the page appears very active. Therefore, beyond letting them have control, grab the mic regularly (a few times per week and daily if possible) and engage your community. After all, every interaction shows up on the Fan’s news feed. Give them a reason to be actively engaged.
