But social networks? So when Google+ launched, I jumped in again but was, again, seriously unimpressed with the “me too” nature of trying to copy Facebook, Twitter, and Skype. Remember when Google + was going to kill Facebook and Twitter? Facebook and Twitter are not going away. Not yet Google!

Social media and social networking are both about connecting people. Without people and their personal relationship information, social media sites like Facebook and Twitter would be reduced to…well…MySpace. Recently, I have been having issues with my iPad. Share this on Facebook Tweet This!

Believe me, it’s difficult to resist the temptation to check your Facebook feed, especially when you have your phone out to search Google Maps for the closest coffee shop. In fact, I kinda failed which is what prompted me to write down my tips for taking a vacation from social media, both for myself and anyone else that might benefit.

If I just spout out statements like “Facebook announces that it’s going to buy Twitter” or “Apple is discontinuing the iPad 1 due to iOS 5 crashes”, I might generate a bunch of SEO traffic and boost my readership, but what value did I actually provide to my readers by publishing unsupported facts?

Those of us who are active with blogs, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Email , Farmville, whatever…sometimes need to just turn off the computer, power down the iPad, and hide the phone. Our addiction to social media is at epic proportions and we often sacrifice our quality time with family in lieu of online time with friends.

A few weeks back, Eric Roach, Xydo.com 's co-founder and CEO, had lunch with me to show me a new, Digg-like network for sharing articles in a modern way. The service attempts to track retweets and shares across social networks to identify, automatically, what the top news of the day is. Xydo comes with a twist though.
