The easiest thing to do is to setup your keywords to be delivered via RSS to the feed reader of your choice (google reader, bloglines, etc). Following in the hopes they will follow you back and buy your stuff is not a good strategy.

You can see how many people are subscribing to your RSS feed and from which sources, and if you use the new Google Analytics integration, you can see how many clicks each individual post is getting from feed readers. This is a community site where the content with the most votes gets pushed to the homepage.

I now think my post on reaching 10K subscribers was indeed a bug (I did say it might be in the post ) and the site is at 7,543 readers. Although I don’t have any goals for the size of the community here, I still think it is an interesting metric to monitor. I am a tad jealous that you were able to attend a few of the matches.

A few weeks ago, jwz posted a great piece on how to access Facebook via a feed reader. I now have status updates in my feed, and finally, I can see both happy and sad news. So many people use LinkedIn this way; I’d be surprised if less than 90% of LinkedIn’s community didn’t. It’s not.

Although I don’t have any goals for the size of the community here, I still think it is an interesting metric to monitor. July 1st : 7,543 July 31st : 8,174 Change : +631 For writing so little, and having a lot less traffic than most months, July didn’t turn out too badly at all in terms of feed growth.

Decide on a Brandable Name Because these blogs write so much, they don’t have as many people coming to their blog via feed readers as you would expect. Can you really take in 50-60 posts every day from your favourite blog in your inbox or in Google Reader? They refined their approach based on what readers wanted.

Use Google Reader to store your ego searches. Track things like audience/community sentiment (positive/negative) if you want to map effort to results. Use social networks respectfully to share the best of your content, in a community-appropriate setting. Remember that community and marketplace are two different things.
