There was a little get-together for tech reporters at Facebook headquarters today. Whenever Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, summons an audience because he’s got something to announce about Facebook, life as we know it grinds to a halt. Some friends and I took the new Facebook Groups for a test-drive to find out.

It was inspired by a very real exchange with someone on Facebook and the excerpt from my email below is verbatim, but please take this for what it is – an example which highlights how we have different ideas about how best to use social media and how we define what type of conduct is appropriate for members of our own networks.

First a note to the candidates: You have my deepest respect and admiration for being willing to step up and commit to helping our community, state, school board, water district, transportation or other sort of infrastructure management body. It shouldn’t have been a surprise that the online community didn’t grown much.

With the launch of Google’s new social network, Google+ , there are many who have rushed to publish opinions about the demise of other networks, most notably Twitter and Facebook. If such a move doesn’t make sense for my business community, as well as my friends and family, it doesn’t make sense for me.
