Much of this stuff is standard across any kind of online community, and I don’t claim to be very original in any of this. MediaWiki - the platform that Wikipedia, amongst many other wikis, runs on - is probably the best of the free self-hosted options. However, for what it’s worth, here are my thoughts: 1. 9 comments.

A response came from a business owner who had the perfect answer on her website and directed the original poster to the website for a detailed reply. When I reviewed the poster’s account, I understood why. Just do it while giving back to the community as well. Have you read The New Community Rules ?

The examples you gave of people copying full text of a story somewhere else is in the very slim minority from my experience. Josh’s examples relate to sites like Digg, which allows a short description, and FriendFeed, which is similar in that respect. Tamar is also the author of The New Community Rules (July 2009).

Build relationships and community. When bloggers in a particular niche link to one another, it shows mutual respect and helps build the community around that niche. Example: Serious Eats links to a number of food blogs in “ Weekend Cook and Tell Round Up: Thanksgiving Leftover Derby.”. Recognize guest posters or image sources.

Intellipedia is the Intelligence Community’s wiki that is open and editable to anyone with the appropriate clearances within any of the 16 Intelligence Agencies (keep in mind that the FBI is included in this). Intelligence Community – not the general public. Why recreate the wheel? The Whole. : The Whole.
