I think that your example about the commercial product is exactly what is wrong with the marketer.

For me, my most important tasks vary, but generally include things like: Writing a blog post Researching niches Building out current websites Marketing current websites If I spend most of my day doing something other than these things, then I’m not being as effective as I could be with my time.
