About 10:30, when the GABF was shutting down, I fired up my Tweetdeck to make a search for #GABF and see what the users were saying. My twitter contributions to the people following the #gabf feed over my time spent there consisted of slurred ravings and blurred photo’s snapped from my phone and twitpic’d.

So instead of wasting hours with TweetDeck notifications going off every 5 minutes, break your day up and check-in and out of social media for 20 minutes, three times a day. Focus on Your Twitter Lists, Not the Home Feed. When you start following over one hundred people on Twitter, the Home Feed becomes useless pretty quickly.

Time decay: The newer the content, the more likely it will show up in your news feed. Like I pointed out above, if your content gets a low score, it may not even show up in the Recent News feed. So what you need to do is optimize your news feed. Some people think TweetDeck is better than HootSuite, but I disagree.

Facebook has none of these , and Twitter has essentially nothing at all other than Twitter.com, a bunch of celeb and jock users, and Tweetdeck – for which they inexplicably paid $40 million.

Selective Tweets or only posting certain tweets to FB via Tweetdeck etc is a great way to integrate but not alienate. Social technologies make syndication and aggregation simple. I agree these types of people should be told they are ridiculous or unfriended. Im sure you wouldnt post a tweet stream or conversation as your status update.

You can see how many people are subscribing to your RSS feed and from which sources, and if you use the new Google Analytics integration, you can see how many clicks each individual post is getting from feed readers. Around two years ago I had over 350 feeds in there as I was a total information junkie.

In fact, it’s so good that I have now uninstalled Tweetdeck from my Mac as this online version has some features even Tweetdeck was missing. I read these through FriendFeed where I’ve setup a private room for these feeds.

And I don’t even do this manually; the process is automated thanks to RSS feeds. Make Both Actions Easy If I can’t find a ‘retweet’ button on your website and didn’t find your post through Tweetdeck, I’m not going to tweet it. That’s it. It makes no sense not to. Great post man!
