The main online community Facebook – and other social networks such as Twitter, YouTube, Flickr and Livestreaming – have been appropriated for the Icelandic Government’s communications channels to it’s own people. Meaning, short viral spiked events, then over. Metagovernment is alive and well.

We have a robust social media presence on all the sites you’d expect: Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, and our blog. In addition to those in the room on August 12, another 1,200 contributors joined online via ustream and Twitter. The American Red Cross is mentioned more than 1,000 times per day on the social web.

A number of years ago I experimented over with using Ustream to connect with my readers. Real Life Events. The other way I put myself out there to meet readers was to attend events that I thought my readers might be attending. Similarly Fox in Flats runs a Style Dare a Day challenge that is always popular.
