There are pros and cons for all of them, but it depends a lot on whether you want to spend any money, want to have your own domain name, what kind of options and functionalities you want and what kind of skills you have in doing the design and maybe programming. I will go through to most widely used blogging services.

Pick A Domain Name. Your domain name is what you’ll be known by online, it’s your unique address, how people will find you in the search engines and it’s your until you decide you don’t want to pay for it anymore. My advice, use WordPress. Image by Pexels from Pixabay.

If you have changed your permalink structure or your domain name, you might even have some old links out there that need fixing because they point to the old URLs.If you need a good tool to redirect user from an out-of-date URL to a new one, check out the Redirection plugin for WordPress. Did I miss any important ones?

You can even Blog using tumblr - which is a hybrid online social network and Blogging platform - or you can Blog for an existing online publisher like The Huffington Post. The default choice for a great Blogging platform is WordPress. WordPress makes this (somewhat) easier because you can buy and customize themes.

You could almost skip the aspect of setting up the layout of the blog and just start posting, going with the default blog template provided by Tumblr. It is also great for socializing and building your own community. However, if you want to set up a business site, I suggest WordPress. The WordPress Installation.

Make sure you are the owner of all the domain names associated with your name; if you go by Jon Lener, try to secure access to jonlener.com, jon-lener.org, jonlener.net, and all the exact-match variations you can get. Make sure to get a LinkedIn page, then, because LinkedIn ranks better on Google than any other social network!
