Mobile is an important and growing traffic source for all publishers, but just how much traffic does it represent? I was curious where things currently stand so I pulled mobile traffic figures from SimilarWeb for a variety of well-known brands. The highest figure was 70% and the lowest was 25%: Average Mobile Traffic Number of Sites.

Google Panda was designed to go after sites with a high volume of thin or low-quality content (among other things) in an effort to improve the overall strength of the search results. But the unfortunate reality is that with just about every Panda update well-established brands with good content get caught in the filter.

As a user I like the new hosted and mobile-specific article formats, be that Facebook Instant Articles , Apple News Format or Google’s AMP project.

You can use Keyword Planner to compare terms, get new content ideas, explore topical categories, monitor seasonality and compare desktop vs. mobile, among other tasks. Google Trends. Wordstream.

In working with a wide range of news and content sites, I know that becoming an approved source and maximizing Google News visibility (through avoiding news crawl errors and editorial optimization) continue to be important priorities. Word of mouth on Twitter, Facebook and other sites (including The White House blog ) has raised over $2 million to-date through mobile phone donations organized by mGive. UPDATES: Mobile phone donations have gone very well. Adam is part of the Define Search Strategies consulting team, which is owned by The New York Times Company.

I noticed that in addition to the email list users can sign up for text and voice updates via mobile phone. The key takeaway: the more ways you can bring your Facebook Pages to life, the better. Perhaps for that Alicia Keys should adopt the same style as she did in her Saturday Night Live digital short: Just saying.
