Brightkite: Email and SMS – mobile web is definitely the wave of the future. The main thing that seems missing from Plurk is the community and visibility a lot of other sites have attracted. Share your experiences, memories and events with your friends and family. People don’t like to be disconnected.

After Google Voice and its third-party apps were turned down by Apple due to “it duplicating features that the iPhone comes with (Dialer, SMS, etc),&# Google built a completely browser-based app , avoiding the restrictions and not having to split the profits. To take two examples: people complain about an issue to an important newspaper prompting them to push the issue into the mainstream, or if a TV station covers an event, that becomes an important topic. Not just being talked about but be an active voice in the community. In a sense, they can become part of the community.

On the other hand, Plurk is really new, and thus, Twitter wins on followers (and the fact that mobile access — via SMS — totally owns), so the Plurk discussions (for now) are at a minimum. I think plurk is more for networking and twitter more for tweeting news/events/links. You may have more than one.
