But lately I’ve heard some comparisons between Google+ and Twitter. In fact, some Google+ users are abandoning Twitter. Or replacing their Twitter profile links to drive traffic to their Google+ streams. Is Twitter old hat? First, I think Twitter still has value. It got me to thinking. Is it on the way out?

I recently noticed that the service has added several other social media services to its metrics, which increases its value a hundred-fold (though I’d still say it’s overly weighted toward Twitter). Among the services that Klout now tracks are: Tumblr – A blogging platform somewhat like a cross between Twitter and Blogger.

If you are a successful blogger in your niche, then I’d be willing to bet that you don’t get your ideas for posts all from one source. Twitter – Who do you follow? Twitter Trends. There are plenty of places to go online to get ideas for your blog posts. There’s probably gold in those tweets. You should.

Moments could potentially be a good measure of social influence , but I won’t know until I see it. I like the addition of Wikipedia and +K to the mix, but Klout currently only monitors 11 networks.

It isn’t enough just to post great content to Facebook and Twitter. If you post great content in your social media efforts that in turn gets the attention of bloggers who write about you and link to you, then you will be doing yourself huge favors. If you can do that, you’ll have plenty of well earned inbound links.
