Because if you are creating content, you are likely distributing and promoting that content in variety of ways, including social media. It isn’t that we need a tool that does everything. Most obvious of these is Google Analytics.

Another method that Ive been impressed by is Gary Kings "Nonparametric Content Analysis" (its what powers Crimson Hexagon). It requires that researchers identify the types of categories and themes that they want to track to start, and they feed the model examples of that content (e.g., stories, blog posts, etc.). Stop being lazy.
