Other than signing book deals, the favorite sport of the social media punditry these days seems to be bashing Klout. The most recent example was from B2B social media thinker Paul Gillin who wrote a post unveiling the flaws in Klout’s ranking scheme. And Twitter, which “ranks&# tweets to determine trending topics.

Your speed in answering the social media telephone is no different. Considering that 70% of consumer complaints on Twitter go unanswered , you can probably assume that response at ANY point will win you some hearts and minds amongst your customers. And that’s probably true today. But it won’t be true for very long.

Instead, it’s the standard sports franchise drivel, including ads for home equity loans above the team logo. But, the team does reference a series of social media outposts via a tiny murderers row of icons (my favorite is “Linkedin.coming soon&#. The Twitter background includes zero evidence of any other outpost.

For social media, one hand giveth (instant spread of the Bin Laden news) while the other hand taketh away (seemingly daily stories about a company or person doing it “wrong&# ). At least on Twitter you only have 140 characters to give people the impression that you’re stupid. Wake up and smell the keyboard.

link] jaybaer Makes me wonder if the reason it worked in sports is because it was an umpire, not a player. Im a frequent social media conference speaker , and interview social media luminaries for my Twitter 20 series of live Twitter interviews. We may be the least vindictive, grudge-holding society ever.

In social media, and in life you have to embrace a simple concept: Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gained. If you want to support an IU sport, I would choose men's soccer! My guess…I will see you more often now that you are not an Arizona resident — your visits to town may have more “social&# time.
