Everyone knows that data from Nielsen, Compete, Quantcast, Alexa and their ilk is only semi-accurate unless the site chooses to report actual numbers, so we’ve mostly accepted the fact that website traffic is a dull topic not worth our curiosity or bile. We may not like it. We may not even choose to admit it.

Almost every article written after the infamous Panda and Penguin updates has suggested guest posting as a viable and effective technique to increase authority with search engines, improve organic search visibility, generate leads, and build authorship. Try Compete, Quantcast and Alexa, but be aware that none offer completely accurate data.

Product review blogs are one of the best ways for ecommerce sites to spread the word about their products and build backlinks to increase organic search traffic. If you claim your site gets 50,000 unique visitors a month and I go on Compete or Quantcast and see that your data is unavailable, we have a problem.

Compete and Quantcast should have some information for you if the sites are of a decent size. You could say that we prefer signal over noise. Alexa is quite skewed towards the IM niche as a lot of marketers have the toolbar installed on their browser and then visit this site. Alexa is at least a week behind though in terms of actual tracking.
