Regarding comments about the search box location, I'm used to a left or central location on search engines (Google, Yahoo, etc.), but a right-hand location on content sites. I completely missed it in the first two headers, but noticed it readily in the third. I also prefer the overall design to #2/3. A little help for the rest of us.
