When I started Digital Photography School I created avatars to represent the different types of people I’d be writing for. Sounds a bit like an avatar, doesn’t it?). Some of you may remember a site called Digg, where you could post links and people would vote on them. It pretty much destroyed the community I’d created.

Add an avatar and a bio at the minimum. Social News (Digg, Sphinn, Mixx, Reddit, Tip’d, and a whole load of related sites) Submitting only your own articles and posts to social media sites. Connector looks at the public friends lists on del.icio.us, Pownce, Digg, Last.fm, and YouTube to see if youre connected there as well. Its awesome to have a lot of friends, and even more so being active in the hottest blog communities. It never ceases to amaze me how many knitting communities there are on MyBlogLog!

With Twitter being so incredibly large and vast, there are different types of mini-communities. At business networking events, try to get to know people outside your group of trusted colleagues. I started following people who wrote or commented on the SEO blogs to develop my own Twitter community. Call them cliques if you will.
