In general, people will tend to be more willing to buy a video course than a 400-page document that they have to download, print, and read. If you’ve ever bought a multi-media course online, then you’ll know that it’s a lot more engaging than a simple ebook. Lessons in marketing. Lessons in building a brand.

This sounds self-evident, but frankly I’m stumped at the number of bloggers who have an affiliate banner for a hosting company on their blog—even though their audience clearly isn’t thinking about computers or internet when visiting their blog. Again, you can make use of the same strategy in your affiliate marketing.

The free ebook. Then, on a whim, I thought I would just turn it into a free ebook and give it away on my site to anyone who subscribed by email (nothing new). Hundreds of people were subscribing to my blog to get this free ebook. Why is this ebook so successful? I started to wonder why this ebook was so successful.

I spent a lot of time away from blogging and focused on affiliate marketing and other tactics, having fleeting (but more consistent) success in the process. The result is an internet literally flooded with information products (eBooks, online membership sites, video courses, podcasts) on every topic you can imagine.

A few years ago I wouldn’t have written a blog post about affiliate marketing. Make sure your URL matches your target key phrase (whether it is root or long tail), make sure your title and header work and ensure you have a good balance of keywords throughout the article. It all seemed too dirty.
