When bombarded with updates, notifications, likes, and shares, we can find ourselves even more disconnected and isolated. We do these things to soothe our need to connect with real, live human beings, but it doesn’t really help, does it? So we dig a deeper digital hole trying to find the connection we are missing.

A VERY close second is the new notifications feature. Admins can now create settings to get a notification email when new posts are made on the page. If you are currently using Facebook as your page, you’ll see these notifications in the top left corner when someone interacts with your page.

The idea of meditating together with 10,000 people around the world is powerful, and I’ve struck up several conversations around these notifications on Twitter. It also has an option to auto-post to social networks with a notice you are starting or just completed meditation. Is community engagement gamification?

Needless to say, the notification feature is critical since there aren’t a lot of people using App.net yet, so rather than checking every 5 minutes you can just turn notifications on and get back to people almost immediately. Mac Desktop. At the moment Wedge is my favorite.

Mention them in the comment stream with their username and they’ll be tagged with a notification. Shows can be scheduled or serendipitous on-the-fly. Want to get more people in Blab? Many show hosts bring on a main guest and then people jump on with questions and comments, then exit to leave the “seat” for the next person.

And of course, once you’re using the app you’ll get notifications when people you follow are streaming and can jump on to see what’s up. Honestly some of the joy of Twitter is that serendipity of finding gems that you may have missed in your stream. That immediacy for which Twitter has always been famous.

A page doesn’t get notifications by email, text or in the Google+ bar, so it’s hard to keep on top of your discussions. There are so many things business page can’t do yet. For example: A page can’t follow you until you follow it first or mention it in a post. Hangouts don’t work on a mobile device for pages.
