This is not a regular practice on the social news giant, and unfortunately, that is probably the biggest thing causing its downfall. As a side point, Google is a bigger beast and it has tens or hundreds of staff members visiting forums and moderating groups to ensure that the user experience is a good one. Time will only tell.

In the past few weeks, however, even Digg’s other top users are seeing that Digg is becoming more difficult of a social news site to enjoy, and after stepping away from Digg for awhile, I have some thoughts and reflections on how it was and possibly how it should be. In fact, most of them had already left.

These are friends who have no direct ties to the industry, but in using social networks, we’ve formed close bonds and friendships. Digg is by far the largest; as a former “top user&# of the service , I built strong relationships with employees and users of the social news site. Interesting observation.

Curiosity – most social media marketers that I know are constantly asking ‘what if… ’ type questions. Curious people are driven to push into new group and solve problems in new ways. Perseverance – building a social media presence doesn’t happen over night.

It’s not enough to be insular and focus on your groups of friends. You may find people who are surfing outside your social circle who might be potentially interested in your products. At business networking events, try to get to know people outside your group of trusted colleagues. You never know who you might meet.

We may never know why someone who (by her own claims on Google Groups) was pulling in $5,000/month via counseling fees, affiliate marketing programs, and essays posted to paying websites such as Squidoo, would risk it all in a scheme that only raised a few hundred dollars. People hustling others on social media for a couple of dollars.
