In other words, I can check someone’s Friendfeed page and get any information I want about them, including when they are actively engaged in social media activities and how much of a priority social media is to them in their online habits and information consumption. With Friendfeed, your information is now more public than ever.

Professionalism and Privacy. Privacy is a huge concern for those individuals who want to keep their lives out of search engines and out of the reach of prospective employers who might find incriminating information. Couple that with the spam and the lack of privacy, MySpace leaves much to be desired.

Despite the fact that Facebook has the most customizable privacy settings of all social networks (though we could argue with their effectiveness in a whole other post), people don’t like maintaining a “business&# identity on the same profile as their “personal&# (fun?) I’d be honored to have you join me.

Just because my work includes strong involvement with social media doesn’t mean that I need to let everyone into my personal life… or for that matter… open my privacy so you can see all my posts. I kind of have an “old school&# approach but I also respect my privacy. Great post.

I needed to differentiate Digg from social media because they actually are part of a distinctive community (and as you know, I’m very passionate about Digg so it really did deserve its own category). I think it’s a bit of an intrusion on my privacy with how Spock seems to be harvesting emails.

While this feature was met initially with a lot of dissent , I feel comfortable sharing this information with my friends — otherwise, I would not have established that connection with them. Right now, the privacy measures for such things are tight, so you need to opt-in entirely for this. Facebook is still expanding.
