There are a number of sites and platforms that serve as social bookmarking tools: Delicious is probably the best known one; StumbleUpon, Reddit and Digg are variations on the concept of the merging of discovery, serendipity and search, with tagging as the common thread that runs through each.

I am fascinated by the amount of social networks that I’m part of, but better yet, I’m intrigued to find that I assume different “personas,&# at least in terms of choosing friends (and using the networks), on each social site.

No, building your personal brand in social media does not count. In social media marketing, the assets are missing. Just because your wonderful piece of linkbait that drove 30,000 visitors to via Digg succeeded once (or maybe twice) doesn’t mean that you’re ready to go at having those clients alone.

My mind wandered back to those days after some recent social networking encounters on Twitter, although this could have taken place on any other networking platform or with people I’ve met face-to-face. People who follow me will read messages about puppies, Seattle, IT process, recipes, and sports… for the most part.

I ran a sports site until just recently, and I LOVED to talk sports from that Twitter account. I refused to tweet more than once a day about sports on my @danielthepoet account, simply because most of my connections there are marketers or tech-obsessed folks (i.e. not so much sports fans). that is what is important here.
