In my first year I’ve starting my company, while few and far between, I’ve actually had new business prospects that I’ve turned down. What initially started out as a very promising lead for our company, turned into the most ridiculous showing of disorganization and disrespect I’ve faced since launching my business.

The March Madness Tournament is one of my favorite sporting events of the year. Not because basketball is really my favorite, but because of all the sporting events in the world, it’s the one event where anything is possible. It can be easier and safer to go with the bigger companies when it comes to your career.

So many companies I’ve worked for that get in their own way. I get more done in one day then I was ever able to try and get done in a week at bloated companies. I never have to miss any of my boys’ baseball games, school events, etc. You actually get work done. Too many layers of management…process.

I remember attending a networking event and a talented speaker was up talking about how to grow your business. One of the things he said has always resonated with me, and it was the idea that you have to operate your business with the attitude that you have no competition.

For years, I’ve attended the Search Engine Strategies and SMX events and the biggest difference by far is in the audience. So many companies have good intentions and launch, but never back it up with real people and responses. The search shows I’ve attended are much more B2B, with Macworld having a much more consumer feel.

Event Coverage. If you’re hosting any type of event, Twitter can be a great tool to give real time updates to those either in attendance or those unable to attend. It also makes your company or organization look with the times. The only difference is the executional details of how companies do this. Cross Promotion.
