Use tools like Hootsuite , Hootlet and TwitrBackgrounds.com to get up and running. Outside the obvious that it’s a community directly tied to job opportunities, there are thousands of great communities with vibrant discussions. Instead, use a tool like Google Reader and subscribe to job listings where applicable.

Currently I’m doing this on Google+. I see a bright future for the Google. One is Hootsuite for iPad. The truth is that there are no shortcuts to community building , it requires sustained time, effort and dedication: at least to create a community that is truly activated and interested. You can see how many people are subscribing to your RSS feed and from which sources, and if you use the new Google Analytics integration, you can see how many clicks each individual post is getting from feed readers. Around two years ago I had over 350 feeds in there as I was a total information junkie.

If they’re connected via social networks, you get their picture, their location, and job titles, in addition to their Twitter feed and Facebook updates (if available) and links to their social profiles. Google Reader. Google Docs. In fact, I use Jabber for internal communications as Community Manager of Namecheap.
