And annual surveys reveal little about what current events or trending topics are most relevant among consumers right now. Social media is much cheaper than surveys or focus groups, which can cost thousands of dollars depending on the size and complexity of your research panel. It was delicious and pretty idiot proof.

You can use the many applications that Facebook offers, so that others can answer questions on a survey, have discussions on the forums, and/or have notes to bring awareness to a topic. Delicious Social bookmarking is a great way to share interesting links that could aid in the development of an idea, education, and/or marketing efforts.

Recent surveys have shown that while businesses are embracing social media in droves, many are doing so without any real strategy in place. Share this on Reddit. These are the tools to start with, but by no means should a social media strategy be limited to these: depending again on talent, resources, corporate personality etc.,

You have to create content, be part of many communities, and proceed incrementally. Too often we see social media strategies that involve putting photos into Flickr, videos into YouTube or the creation of a Facebook application and then never revisiting the environment to engage with the communities around this content.
