As Digg becomes more of a social network and less of a social news network (or a hybrid that incorporates both elements), it has a lot of obstacles it needs to face. Besides major usability issues , duplicate stories submissions , and ads that literally scream at you , Digg has yet another issue to deal with: privacy.

I guess it’s assumed in social spaces that when s/he initiates the friend request, you can comment on anything on their Facebook wall or tweet back at them about something personal or even comment on a photo. Unless the comments are not appropriate, no offense should be taken at all by the other person.

My only everyday social network is IM, though Orkut(which seems to be missing from a lot of lists) is the place which has all my school friends, even the ones who don’t know to use IM. And, can we please have a “Notify me of follow up comments&# plugin here? I really appreciate the other comments above. P.S. Excel?

Despite the fact that Facebook has the most customizable privacy settings of all social networks (though we could argue with their effectiveness in a whole other post), people don’t like maintaining a “business&# identity on the same profile as their “personal&# (fun?) Would you really comment on those updates?

I have never written a product review on my blog and my posts average 30 comments. However, after writing a product review on my blog recently, after 24 hours I only had 3 comments on the post (which is very unusual). This particular article is top notch and prompted me out of the woodwork into the comments. Great post, Oni!
