I’m not suggesting that general managers get on here and blog about player transactions or scouting strategies, but they could definitely share their ideas for promotions and community events, best practices for engaging with season ticket holders, or how they’re using social media – things that help the entire league.

I’ve seen Intellipedia , TSA’s Evolution of Security blog , DoDLive , the DoD’s Blogger’s Roundtable , FEMA’s YouTube channel , GovLoop , and many other examples of “Government 2.0.&# I’ve also seen plenty of failed blogs, dormant wikis, and other failed attempts at using social media.

From the player (Gilbert Arenas’ landmark blogging in 2006) to the team (the Red Sox using Twitter to give away free tickets during a rain delay) to the league (the NHL’s tweetups ), social media has gone from being an innovative marketing tactic to a must-have component of any marketing strategy.

In my next four blog posts, I’ll tackle each of the demographics that I brought up in the original posts one by one and illustrate how I handle the “social media is scary&# line. Show them how they can use their organization’s internal blogs, wiki, bookmarks, etc. I blogged every chance I got.

My first resolution was the always ever-popular “ blog more often.&# While this is less than I’d ideally like to blog, I found that while there are a ton of topics I’d like to blog about, I tend to blog only when I feel like I have something to say that offers some some value to you.

Thinker – You’re not on Twitter, nor do you maintain a blog.
