Twitter, Pownce, and other “microblogging&# platforms really don’t fit in the type of social networks that I intend to illustrate here. While my personal one is not “secret&# per se, and even has the same avatar/photo as my professional one, I find it much more useful to compartmentalize, both for following others and being followed. I read this article about microblogging [link] , and although it has not made a fan out of me, it has opened my eyes to its wonders.

If you are AT&T and your avatar was the face of your CEO, you’re doing it wrong. If you are building your *personal* brand, by all means, use your avatar (and face!). Tamar is also the author of The New Community Rules (July 2009). If your colors are green and white, use those colors all over your social profiles.
