There were other typical social networks in this grouping as well, including Flickr, FriendFeed, Kirtsy, Mixx, Plurk, StumbleUpon, Tip’d, and Twitter. Twitter isn’t a “social network&# though, at least not how I define it – it’s a microblogging platform with a strong community. It’s not.

It’s not enough to be insular and focus on your groups of friends. At business networking events, try to get to know people outside your group of trusted colleagues. We may be slightly different versions of ourself when with each of these different groups. I created an additional account for people in that group.

As a side point, Google is a bigger beast and it has tens or hundreds of staff members visiting forums and moderating groups to ensure that the user experience is a good one. Some might be the “savviest&# users because they spend inordinate amounts of time and energy there.

I eager to see some Mixx functionalities especially the groups that can really reshape the Digg frontpage and push usability up for users… ok maybe marketing companies pushing for digg frontpage won’t be happy, but hey its a community, there’ll be always good opportunity, just gonna change the approach.

We may never know why someone who (by her own claims on Google Groups) was pulling in $5,000/month via counseling fees, affiliate marketing programs, and essays posted to paying websites such as Squidoo, would risk it all in a scheme that only raised a few hundred dollars. Ask for proof. There is a fine line in all of this.

Curious people are driven to push into new group and solve problems in new ways. A regular marketer is usually product minded and aims products (or content, or whatever) at target groups, while a social media marketer is consumer minded and matches groups of people with products.
