I’m competing against them in one industry and all factors would suggest I should outrank them, but I simply don’t. The first thing that struck me about the results here is how well the 5th site was ranking when it was so young compared to the other competing sites. 1 site ranking Wikihow. A site’s authority may rapidly rise and fall depending on what the blogosphere is discussing at the moment, and how often a site produces content being referenced by other sites. Yet, Compete isn’t the only tool showing them to be receiving a lot more traffic than TechCrunch these days. How did they do it?

First, if you look at their traffic stats with Compete you can see that they have traffic spikes and dips at around the same time: Then, looking at feed subscribers , despite the large difference at the start of the graph, their growth rate is on a very similar consistent rise. In fact, my search only turned up one guest post each.
