I was told that the “mistake&# about the Foursquare-Facebook promotion was legitimate, since they were polling users on Facebook to find places where Foursquare badges can be given — yes, read that again. Seems odd to ask where to put FourSquare badges anyhow. I’m not convinced. If I can do it, so can you.

As a small extension of that, Facebook allows you to create your own “profile badge,&# a snippet of code that you can display on other websites, and even for users who don’t have Facebook. Face it (no pun intended), Facebook is the ultimate stalker tool. In my case, I have particularly taken a liking to the News Feed.

Don’t Treat Fans Like Cattle To me, the key insight is less about who checks what first (although it would be interesting to see the impact of smart phone ownership on the results).

Facebook and/or MySpace are useful social networks where you can build outposts (see next list). Build a similar outpost on MySpace, if your audience might be there. HERE STARTS THE BADGES SECTION. When adding new badges, make sure to wrap them in tags. Twitter.com is a must if you have a social media audience.
