I did not want a Kindle to replace the experience of reading tactile books when I wrote about it in February 2009. It isn’t a perfect experience, but if nothing else it’s a promising look into the future of retail commerce. Where would a Kindle, or a Nook, or an iPad even, fit into my world of technology?

Amazon had only recently launched the Kindle, and the first iPad didn’t appear for another year. they’re unlikely to pay more than $9.99

After a few days of messing around with it, the iPad reminds me very much of that remote control with a cord. Most of the chatter leading up to the iPad’s release was around how would it perform against standard computing tasks. I use my iPad instead of my iPhone, not instead of my MacBook. Same with email.
