But the social network didn’t have a clear business model, when it was founded back in 2004. The success of Facebook is rather indisputable with an estimate of 1 billion $ revenue in 2010. Still, being launched with focus on the product instead of a sustainable business model proved to be successful.

As a college graduate and early adopter of Facebook (in 2004), I could definitely see that. Why did I join in 2004? One was in college in 2004, while the other was in high school. I’m a borderline user of both social networks; I graduated from college in 2003, but joined Facebook when it established in 2004.

Facebook’s intended purpose when created by Mark Zuckerberg in 2004 was for connecting college students with each other in their respective universities. I joined in early 2004 (I have a 6 digit Facebook ID, 102991, and signed up when Facebook was open to about 3 universities). I want to say yes. But I’m not there yet.

See, I’m one of those Facebook users who have been on the service since February 2004, which is quite a long time considering Facebook was open to about three schools at the time that I signed up.
