I am ambiverted, however online I am extremely sociable – having been in online marketing since ’97 and loving connecting with people online a whole lot more than offline. Facebook’s intended purpose when created by Mark Zuckerberg in 2004 was for connecting college students with each other in their respective universities.

The High Point: Facebook In 2004, I joined Facebook and my behavior changed drastically. While this isn’t anything substantially groundbreaking, I propose this question: why is it that many marketers are not embracing the technology earlier? Definitely not being led by internet marketers. I had many friends just like that.

Based on my findings, Problogger started in 2004, Copyblogger started in 2006, Daily Blog Tips started in 2006, Steve Pavlina’s Blog started in 2004, and Entrepreneur’s Journey started in 2004. All of these blogs also make use of affiliate marketing and it works for them since they have a large audience.

I’m sure the internet marketing industry isn’t alone in this regard. See, I’m one of those Facebook users who have been on the service since February 2004, which is quite a long time considering Facebook was open to about three schools at the time that I signed up. I actually practice what I preach.

Facebook understands its demographics and practices smart marketing. The Apple Students Group is a great way for Apple to market its own products, and over the summer, it offered free songs through iTunes. Last year, Facebook held an NCAA tournament on its site (which was another clever marketing tactic). Thoughtful.
