My uncle knows a young girl from his community, a recent college graduate, who is looking for a social media job. Online is a global enabler of friendships, communities and networks acros sthe globe between people that does not necessarily have to be in the same geographic location. I want to say yes. But I’m not there yet.

The High Point: Facebook In 2004, I joined Facebook and my behavior changed drastically. I needed to differentiate Digg from social media because they actually are part of a distinctive community (and as you know, I’m very passionate about Digg so it really did deserve its own category). I had many friends just like that.

Based on my findings, Problogger started in 2004, Copyblogger started in 2006, Daily Blog Tips started in 2006, Steve Pavlina’s Blog started in 2004, and Entrepreneur’s Journey started in 2004. Patience is required in building a community, seeing real results with monetization and building traffic.

See, I’m one of those Facebook users who have been on the service since February 2004, which is quite a long time considering Facebook was open to about three schools at the time that I signed up. So many people use LinkedIn this way; I’d be surprised if less than 90% of LinkedIn’s community didn’t.

But over the past few months, the Facebook community has become a huge success and is continuing to flourish, and my classmates are slowly beginning to join the network. According to Baloun, Mark Zuckerberg is passionate about his product and wants to play a key role in cultivating that community without losing the control.

As a college graduate and early adopter of Facebook (in 2004), I could definitely see that. Why did I join in 2004? One was in college in 2004, while the other was in high school. Quite often, finding a teacher on MySpace doesn’t bode well with the community. Initial audience. I have two younger sisters.
