This post takes a look at how grassroots, user generated flash mobs got hijacked and became agency created, professionally choreographed and danced by hired talent, to flog products. This is an agency created (won ad of the year) flash mob for T Mobile – Saatchi and Saatchi. This is not how flash mobs started out.

We become “part&# of the dynamic of the group, of the community. You are a creator and you’re validating yourself for the group. Social Media flash mobs go nuts over corporate missteps-they validate each other in unison and then are further validated by Twitter, blogs and reaction from the company itself.

2,500 people have registered directly from the site where the movie is shown and they reached a target group who is hard to get attention from; young metropolitans. Radiotjänst really put a focus on thanking their customers and is doing so with quite extreme actions; they also did Sweden´s greatest flash mob as part of the campaign.

perhaps the Washington Post should have sent out a flash mob alert. It remained a small group and was a lot of fun! Because that’s what will happen this afternoon, at various Metro stations from 5 pm or so onwards. Think that would cause a group of people to gather ’round the vending machine? It ties in well with other “hidden camera&# videos making their way around the web now, like the improvisational dancing in train stations and flash mobs at museums. Possibly the computer on the fritz but kinda cool, huh?
