Facebook Messenger Keeps Displaying a Notification of a New Message, But There Isn’t One. These often go missed, so the notification should disappear when you clear them. From there, just clear the notification as normal. It’s a bit hidden but should clear any unread notifications. Click on Cookies. Now click Done.

Instead, you won’t show up as a group member anymore and you won’t receive the notifications from the group.
