After a few days of messing around with it, the iPad reminds me very much of that remote control with a cord. Most of the chatter leading up to the iPad’s release was around how would it perform against standard computing tasks. I use my iPad instead of my iPhone, not instead of my MacBook. Same with email.

After Google Voice and its third-party apps were turned down by Apple due to “it duplicating features that the iPhone comes with (Dialer, SMS, etc),&# Google built a completely browser-based app , avoiding the restrictions and not having to split the profits. I also have the Google Calendar gadget on my Gmail sidebar, so I have an easy way to access my upcoming meetings, appointments, and phone calls. I know desktop notifications now exist, but I guess the developers of that new feature didn’t realize a better tool that isn’t confined to Chrome has been around for 5 years now.
